Our day begins with a visit to the magnificent Windsor Castle, the official residence of the British Monarchy. We then drive north for a visit to the popular university town of Oxford. Known as the “city of dreamy spires” because of its rich architectural heritage, we take a fascinating tour, highlighted by walking the grounds of the prestigious university campus and hearing stories about famous Oxford residents J.R. Tolkien and Lewis Carroll (“Alice in Wonderland”) and seeing Christ Church, the site where much of the Harry Potter movies were filmed. Also appealing are the charming narrow alleyways, ancient squares and towering spires for which the city is known. Our hotel tonight and tomorrow is in Oxford. We enjoy another fine dinner tonight.

Leaving Oxford we drive south, entering England’s enchanting Cotswolds region of unspoiled countryside, rolling hills, sweeping meadows and stunning natural beauty that appear as if it is right out of a fairy-tale. The area is populated with quintessential British villages, with names such as Chipping Campden, Stowe-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water that feature honey-colored limestone buildings, country houses and gardens appearing much as they have for 300 years. We continue on to Bath, our home for the next two evenings.

5th Day: BATH

We take a tour of Bath, a city that captivates visitors with its timeless charm and unique history dating back to Roman days. We’ll visit its well preserved Roman Baths, whose “healing” natural springs were originally used by the Romans dating back to 60 A.D; the striking Royal Crescent, a row of terraced Georgian houses and gardens laid out in a sweeping crescent; the Pulteney Bridge – unusual because it has shops built across its full span on both sides; Queen Square; the Assembly Rooms; and Bath Abbey. We’ll also step into the life of Bath’s most famous resident, Jane Austen, during our visit to the Jane Austen Centre. Costumed guides take you on an entertaining and educational journey into the life and times of the author of such classic novels as “Pride and Prejudice,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Mansfield Park” and “Emma.”

We’re off on a fascinating visit to one of the great, and mysterious, wonders of the world – Stonehenge. This prehistoric circle of stones is a masterpiece of engineering that was created some 4,500 years ago. How they moved these massive stones, many weighing as much as 25 tons, from distances as far as 160 miles (from Wales) to their present location, remains something of a mystery. There is a surreal sensation of awe that one gets when gazing at this remarkable Neolithic monument. Following our visit, we make our way to London, where we have accommodations for the next 3 evenings. We enjoy dinner in one of London’s better restaurants tonight.
